Local Resources
If something went wrong at your house tonight, a fire, a flood, a sewage backup, a pipe that ran while you were away, this page holds the numbers and the order of operations. Where to sleep. How to shut things off. How to replace the driver's license that is still inside. Who to call when the insurance company goes quiet. Every phone number here was read off the organization's own website, and none of it requires you to be a Peak customer.
Numbers last confirmed August 10, 2026
You do not have to be a Peak customer to use any of this. The page is free, public, and written to be useful whether or not you ever hire us, including if another restoration company is already working on your house.
What is on this page
Seven sections, in roughly the order the questions come up. The phone numbers are gathered at the bottom so you can get to all of them from one place.
If you can't stay in the house tonight
A bed first. The paperwork can run a day behind.
Call the Red Cross if you have nowhere to go.
Emergency shelter, food, and immediate needs after a home fire or flood, at no cost, based on need rather than on insurance. The disaster line is answered 24 hours a day. The number is in the list below.
If you have a homeowner or renter policy, call the carrier and ask two questions by name: do I have Additional Living Expenses, and how do I access it tonight?
ALE is the part of the policy that pays for a hotel and meals while the house is unlivable. Some carriers advance funds the same day, and many have direct-bill hotel arrangements. They rarely volunteer either one, so ask.
Book the hotel tonight and sort reimbursement out tomorrow.
Carriers expect this. Every hour spent on the phone before your family has a bed is an hour spent badly. Keep the itemized folio, carriers want line items, not a card statement.
Call 211 on a weekday for everything else.
The Idaho CareLine is a free statewide referral line: housing help, food, utility assistance, and local nonprofits by zip code. It is not a 24-hour line, overnight, the Red Cross is the call.
If the repair will run more than a couple of weeks, ask the adjuster to approve a short-term rental in writing.
A kitchen stops the meal side of the claim from running, and a family sleeps better in rooms with doors. Get the rental term approved in writing before you sign anything.
ALE is reimbursement against receipts, not an allowance. Hotel folios, meals, pet fees, parking, laundry, extra mileage. Photograph each one the day you get it, thermal paper fades and glove boxes lose things.
Utilities and shut-offs
Gas, power, and water. Know which one is an emergency call and which one is a business-hours call.
Suspected gas leak: get everyone out, including pets, leave the door open, and call Intermountain Gas from outside and away from the building.
Do not use a phone, a light switch, or a garage door opener inside. If the leak has ignited, call 911 instead. The gas emergency line is answered 24 hours a day.
Downed power line, or power that needs to come off at the meter: call Idaho Power.
Stay at least 100 feet from a downed line and assume it is energized. Before anyone works on a badly damaged building, the utility can disconnect at the meter, that call is answered 24 hours a day.
Water running with no working interior shutoff: in Meridian, call the city's Water Division to shut it off at the meter.
That line is answered weekdays during business hours, not overnight. The number is in the list below.
Outside Meridian, or overnight anywhere: call 911 for a main break or a house nobody can shut off.
The fire crew on scene can get the utility out. During business hours, call your city's public works or water department from the number printed on your utility bill.
In most Treasure Valley homes the water main is in the garage, at the crawlspace access, or on the street-side wall of a basement. Finding it on a calm afternoon takes five minutes. Finding it at 2 a.m. with water moving takes longer.
Replacing documents
Replace them in this order. Each one is the key to the next, and doing it out of order costs days.
Driver's license or state ID first.
You cannot check into a hotel, fill a prescription, or get into a bank branch without it. Idaho DMV handles replacements and Star Cards. Number and hours are in the list below.
The insurance policy itself: the whole thing, not the summary.
Your agent can email the full declarations page and policy body within a day. Ask for all of it. The ALE limit, the time cap, and the contents sub-limits live in the body, not on the summary page.
Birth certificates, one for each person.
The Idaho Bureau of Vital Records issues certified copies for births that happened in Idaho. You will need them to rebuild almost everything else, and they take the longest, so order them early.
Social Security cards, but only if you genuinely need the card.
Most of the time you need the number, not the paper. Replacing the card is free and slow. Do it, but do not let it hold up anything else.
Vehicle titles and registration.
Idaho DMV issues duplicate titles. If a vehicle was in the garage this moves several places up the list, because you cannot settle a total loss on a car you cannot prove you own.
Passports, if they were in the house.
Report them lost so nobody else uses them, then apply for replacements. Number below.
Tell your mortgage servicer. Insurance checks for structural damage are usually written to you and the lender jointly, and the lender holds the money in escrow and releases it in draws as the work is inspected. Finding that out at the third check is far worse than finding it out on day two.
Food assistance
The first practical problem, and the easiest one to solve in a way that costs you money later.
Most homeowner and renter policies reimburse meals under Additional Living Expenses, but only the amount above what you normally spend on groceries. If your household normally spends $200 a week on food and you spend $500 eating out, the claim is for the $300 difference, not the $500.
That rule is almost never explained up front, and it is the reason the receipts matter more than the totals. Nobody is going to reconstruct your normal grocery spend for you, so a bank statement from a normal month is worth pulling early.
Where the help is
- The Red Cross can put food in front of your family the first night, at no cost. That is exactly what the disaster line is for, and it is answered 24 hours a day.
- 211 will point you at a hot meal and a food pantry in your zip code, on weekdays.
- findhelpidaho.org is the searchable version of the same directory, useful at three in the morning when nobody is answering a phone.
- If your kids' school is open, ask the front office about meal assistance. It is often available immediately for a displaced family, without the usual paperwork cycle.
- Keep every food receipt, including the drive-through ones, and write the date and who ate on the back. Six weeks later you will not remember.
- Pull a bank or card statement from a normal month before the loss. That is your baseline grocery spend, and the adjuster will ask.
Insurance and claims help
Open the claim early, put everything in writing, and know who referees a dispute.
Call your carrier and open the claim before anything else is decided.
The claim number is what unlocks the rest, including money for a hotel. Get the adjuster's name and direct number in the same call and write both down somewhere that is not the house.
Photograph and video every room before anything moves.
Contents you never photographed are contents the adjuster never saw. Slow phone video, room by room, opening closets and drawers, is enough. Do it before anyone helpful starts tidying.
Ask for Additional Living Expenses by name, and ask for an advance.
Many carriers will send two to four weeks up front if asked, and will not offer. Write down who said yes.
If the adjuster goes quiet or the answer feels wrong, call the Idaho Department of Insurance consumer line.
It is free state help, and answering is their job. You can talk a situation through with a Consumer Affairs officer before filing any formal complaint. Number below.
On our own jobs the file starts in the first hour: numbered photos, moisture readings at marked points, a daily drying log with a date and a time on every entry, and the estimate written in the format adjusters work in. How that works, and how supplements and billing run, is on its own page.
Insurance & Billing: how we document a loss and how supplements work
Pets
The forgotten one. Hotels, shelters, and boarding kennels all have rules, and you find out about them at ten at night with a dog in the back seat.
What to sort out first
- Ask the hotel about pets before you book rather than after. Pet fees are normally reimbursable under ALE.
- Boarding is usually reimbursable too, and it is often cheaper than a hotel's nightly pet fee.
- Vaccination records: your vet clinic has them and can email them the same day. No boarding facility will take an animal without them.
- If an animal is missing after a fire, report it to the Idaho Humane Society and check their found-pet listings daily rather than once.
- Update the microchip registration if your phone number or address has changed. A chip pointing at a burned house does not help anyone.
- Refill prescription pet medication early. Vets can usually do it from the record without a visit.
Say so on the very first call, to whoever you reach. Large-animal placement runs on a different set of phone numbers, and 211 or your county emergency manager is the fastest way into it.
Other trades you may need
Restoration is one trade among several on most losses. This is who does what, so you call the right one first.
Plumber, for the pipe or the fixture that failed.
If water is moving and you cannot shut it off, the plumber comes first. A repaired line says nothing about what is wet inside the walls. That part takes a moisture meter, and it is ours.
Roofing contractor, for anything that is actually roof work.
We tarp, and we find where the water is getting in, which is often several feet from where the stain is. We do not replace roofs. When the repair is a new roof or a new penetration through one, you need a roofer. After a storm, ask any door-knocking crew for an Idaho registration number and a physical local address before money moves.
Electrician, before power comes back on.
Outlets, panels, and fixtures that took water are not safe on the strength of looking dry. After a fire or a significant flood, a licensed electrician signs off before the utility re-energizes.
HVAC contractor, for the furnace, the ducting, and the condensate side.
Ductwork that took water or soot, a condensate line dumping into a crawlspace, or a system that ran during a fire all need the trade that works on them.
We work beside the same local plumbers, roofers, electricians, and HVAC crews year round, and we are happy to pass on a name for your situation. Call and ask. We do not take referral fees from any of them, and you are never obligated to use anyone we suggest.
The numbers
Every number below was read off the organization’s own website, not copied from another list.
Last confirmed August 10, 2026. Each entry links to the page its number came from, so you can check it yourself. Anything we could not confirm from a primary source is marked [VERIFY] and printed without a number. A wrong number on this page would be worse than no number. If you find one that has changed, call us and we will fix it.

Water shutoff outside Meridian (Boise, Nampa, Caldwell)[VERIFY]
Shutting water off at the meter in a city Peak does not have a confirmed after-hours number for.
We could not confirm a current after-hours number from these utilities' own websites, so we are not printing one. For a main break or a house nobody can shut off, call 911 or ask the fire crew on scene. They can get the utility out. During business hours, call your city's public works or water department from the number on your utility bill.

Questions we get about it
Do I have to be a Peak customer to use this page?
No. This page is public and free, and it is written to be useful whether or not you ever hire us. Families already working with another restoration company use it too. Nothing here asks you for anything.
What is Additional Living Expenses?
ALE, also called Loss of Use or Coverage D, is the part of a homeowner or renter policy that pays the extra cost of living somewhere else while your home is uninhabitable. Hotel or rent, meals above what you normally spend on groceries, pet boarding, extra mileage, laundry, and storage. It is paid as reimbursement against receipts, so keep every one, and it is capped by a dollar limit or a time limit or both. Ask your carrier to confirm your limit in writing.
Are the phone numbers on this page current?
Every number was read directly off the organization's own website and is dated on the page. Where we could not confirm a number from a primary source, we left the number out and marked the entry rather than print one that might be wrong. If you find one that has changed, call us and we will fix it.
Can Peak recommend a plumber, roofer, or electrician?
Call and ask. We work beside local trades year round and will pass on a name for your situation over the phone. We do not take referral fees, and you are never obligated to use anyone we suggest.
My city's water shut-off number is not listed. Why?
We only print numbers we confirmed on the utility's own website. Where we could not, the entry says so instead of guessing. For a main break or a house nobody can shut off, call 911, the fire crew on scene can get the utility out. During business hours, use the number on your utility bill.
