Cleaning does not fix everything on a floor. Permanent staining, bleach spots, fiber damage from traffic wear, and delamination are all past what extraction reaches. Pet urine that soaked through to the pad and subfloor is past it too, and treating the carpet alone will buy you about three weeks. We walk the floor with you first and name the spots that will still be there when we leave.

How long until I can walk on it?
Usually dry to the touch in four to six hours, faster if we leave air movers running and you keep the HVAC on. You can walk on it right away in clean shoes or socks. Hold off on putting furniture back on damp carpet, because wood and metal feet will transfer stain.
Will cleaning get rid of pet odor?
Cleaning removes what is in the carpet fiber. Pet urine goes through the carpet into the pad and often into the subfloor, and that is where the odor lives. Real pet odor removal means pulling the affected pad, treating and sealing the subfloor, and then cleaning the carpet. Anyone who tells you a surface clean fixes it is selling you a return visit.

Every 12 to 18 months for a typical household, more often with pets, kids, or a light-colored carpet. Most carpet warranties require professional hot water extraction on a schedule to stay valid, so it is worth checking what yours specifies.
