If there is actual contamination in the system, removing it makes a measurable difference. That means mold on the coil, construction dust, or rodent debris. If the ducts are simply dusty, the honest answer is that evidence for allergy improvement from routine cleaning is mixed, and a better filter and humidity control will do more for you.
